Another Quick Life Update

Some of you might have noticed that I have once again, vanished for a few weeks. This is because I was recently hired as a full-time Beauty Advisor for Estee Lauder in the Nordstrom at the Shops at Mission Viejo, CA! It’s been SUPER great so far. For my career, it’s finally a step in the right direction. I’m extremely excited about my future with Nordstrom and the Estee Lauder Corporation, and how this organization can improve customer experience in the future.

If you live around this general area, please come in and see me! I’d love to meet all of you!  Please note that because we are approaching our largest sales event of the year, the Anniversary Sale, I’m probably going to be too busy to really sit down with you and have a comprehensive discussion about your skin care routine, etc.. Still, if you’re planning on getting something from the Early Access/Anniversary Sale, do come in and say hi!

When the Sale is over (August 3rd?) though, I’d love to do in-person “Come Out” style reviews of your guys’ entire skin care and foundation routines, if you guys are willing of course. For all of us, it would be more efficient that I simply talk to you guys in-person, instead of having to write everything out, as I’ve had to do for the Come Out Routines thus far. Before coming in to the store, consider making an appointment with me, or at least calling ahead to see if I’m actually on shift.

Now, this position changes nothing in terms of what I do here, except perhaps that my posts will be more focused on generalized information (i.e. Ideal Skin Care Routine), versus more individualized posts (i.e. Come Out Routine Reviews). I will likely also have less time to write posts. Therefore, if possible, it will be easier for you to just come into the store, instead of waiting for me to reply to a comment and/or author a post (which I will still do to the best of my ability).

Also, please don’t feel like you have to buy something just to book an appointment with me, etc.. Having this sales position changes nothing in terms of how far I’m willing to go to be of service, which incidentally is what Nordstrom is all about.

Oh, and keep in mind that even though I work at the Estee Lauder “counter,” I can still recommend products from the entire store (and beyond). So there’s no conflict of interest in case any of you were wondering about that.

So… that should cover everything. I continue to appreciate your guys’ patience and loyalty. I really hope to meet some of you in-person! Feel free to comment about anything that may have been left out! <3

  1. So…since I still can’t seem to remember to SAVE my comments…Congratulations! (which I was supposed to say months ago but I think I forgot to save the comment–and then when I didn’t get a response I figured you were diving into the new job and missed it so I didn’t want to bug you! *copy and paste copy and paste to notepad*)
How are things? I’ve been missing your posts! How is the new job?

  2. Hi John! I’ve been reading your stuff for a while; it’s quite amazing! Congrats on the job :).

Question: Have you seen this vitamin C serum? It seems almost too good to be true, so I’m just wondering what your opinion of it is. I THINK (not totally sure though) that its utilizes a pump. If it’s good I think I’ll purchase it :).

  3. I love your service, John, and would love to meet you at work as you’ve offered. Congratulations too on your new position. I hope it is fulfilling and fun.

During August I will be home here in Oceanside, CA from the 23rd on. Afternoons work best but I’ll schedule whatever you have available if I’m able.

Now that you’re HERE if you like beachlife this is the PerfecT time of year for some bodyboarding!  Never done it? No problem! It’s easy to learn as long as you can swim.

Look forward to hearing back. ~Val

  6. And what a great fit for you: Nordstrom’s. You are the epitome of “customer service”, and we’re not even buying anything from you!
BTW – i am loving the MD Solar Science Mineral Cream 50 you recommended for awhile back so i am glad that you will not be obligated to push one brand.
Good Luck and please don’t ever, ever leave us.

  10. Congratulations John. I’m glad you feel like you’re headed in the right direction. Estée Lauder is huge so there is certainly plenty of room for someone with your knowledge, passion for skincare, and fun and quirky personality to grow and develop. You have so much to offer :-)

  14. Glad to see you’re taking a step to the direction you want in life, John! It must be amazing, working in the field that you love so much. I don’t live in the U.S., but I can only imagine all the happy people who will leave with your advice :)

  15. Dear John, you have fans all over the world. For many of us it is not that easy just to go to Nordstorm in CA. :-) But we do understand the scarcity of time problem. However, it would be great if you didnt give up writing hier from time to time, as many really learn a lot from your knowledge.
And we want to know more…about sunscreen, hyaluronic acid, penetration possibility for certain ingredients etc….So much stuff to understand.
Happy for you! Estee Lauder makes good stuff!
    Lots of nicethoughts send you
    Pia

and yes, coming out with your skin care routine would be great! Even if it is based only on Estee Lauder product :-))

    • Yes, I will most definitely still be writing stuff! You’re right. There IS so much to talk about. Gosh, I have a mile long list in TOP of the Ideal Routine Series.

Oh, and just because I work for EL doesn’t mean I love or use all of their products. I haven’t quite found my “ideal” routine yet, but I can tell you that it wouldn’t include more than two EL product (out of like.. a lot). LOL
