How do you test new products?

Because I’m so particular and OCD about reviewing products based on their ingredient lists before actually trying said products, I don’t have to test them for too long before deciding whether or not they’re suitable. I will typically try a new product for two weeks to determine if it fits into my routine and that it doesn’t trigger … Continue reading

Come Out! (With Your Skin Care) Overview Review #1

I’ve realized that by just reviewing a given’s person routine week after week wouldn’t be very helpful for most readers unless his/her routine and skin is similar to the reviewee’s. In addition, because of the length of each routine, I doubt anyone would read through past routine reviews in an attempt to find something more relevant. Therefore, … Continue reading

Do you tend to spend more on individual skin care or makeup products?

For me, it’s definitely makeup. And while that may be initially surprising, considering this is a skin care blog, hopefully you’ll be able to understand why this response my response after reading this through. I find myself shelling out $40-$50 for a single foundation, but not even looking at similarly priced skin care. For example, … Continue reading

How do you avoid or treat flaky skin that accentuates foundation?

I use a gentle chemical exfoliant, preferably a 5-10% glycolic acid liquid treatment every 2-3 days to avoid this problem. I use the 5% more often since it’s not as harsh and irritating, but still efficacious. The 10% is reserved for weekly use. When applying foundation, I make sure to use a good primer (I actually use … Continue reading

When is the price right?

Although I had promised readers that I wouldn’t be writing any new posts until January, a recent discussion compelled me to do an additional post on this: How much does price affect the efficacy and quality of skin care products? With the holiday shopping season upon us, you may be thinking about picking up that expensive cream or … Continue reading

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate: ($43/$68 for 1.0 oz/1.7 oz) Positives: This contains high amounts of several fantastic emollients and humectants such as squalane, and the jojoba, rose hip and evening primose oils, the latter two of which respectively, also function as an antioxidant and an anti-inflammatory. Although, rose hip oil has only demonstrated this when taken orally, but it still functions an emollient regardless. There are also moderate amounts … Continue reading
