Chanel Hydramax+Active Active Moisture Gel Cream: ($72 for 1.7 oz)
Positives: I really tried my best, but all I could find were infinitesimal amounts of vitamin E and two forms of vitamin C. However, they are all listed after the preservatives, which means that they will do absolutely nothing for the skin. There are also low amounts of the humectant squalane.
Neutrals: This contains various types of silicones, film agents (as the methacrylates, crosspolymers, and copolymers), and a few occlusive agents that do prevent water loss. But virtually every cream should have these agents, which is why I’m not including them in the positives section. Combined, these all help give this product a very smooth and silky gel texture. There is also a small amount of the thermus thermophillus ferment, which is a type of eubacterium that can survive in extremely high temperatures. However, that means absolutely nothing for the skin. There is also a small amount of carob tree extract, which not surprisingly, also has no positive topical effect.
Negatives: The second ingredient is denatured alcohol, which translates to excessive drying, irritation, and with long-term use, significant hindrance of epidermal barrier repair. There is also a moderate to high amount of fragrance, which again only serves to irritate the skin.
Packaging: The cream is housed in a large semi-transparent jar.
Overall: This is definitely one of the worst products you will find from Chanel or any brand. Not only does it contain virtually no beneficial ingredients, it also contains several harmful ones. Honestly, you’d be better off with plain old Cetaphil.
